This month, June marks One year of Lola Starr, although I had worked on this project from the beginning of 2018 as a final major project in University, it was originally named ‘Dress Up’ and as the project was coming to the end I knew I was going to turn it into a business and needed to change the name and to rebrand it.

Once I had the new name and designed the logo I was in the process of building my brand. I Worked on my business plan and finding suppliers for fabrics, snaps and a manufacturer in the UK to manufacture my products. I began travelling to trade shows and forums all over the country and picked up a lot of knowledge.

On a trip to the Business Design Centre in London in July, I found my supplier for my snaps (fasteners) I knew I wanted good quality and for them to be branded with my logo. I also met the contact for my manufacturer who are based in London, this was a very productive day and what could be known as a catalyst for my brand.

I was eager to get the brand out there and had the original denim dress made by local seamstresses to start off with.

Lola Starr Denim Dress

By the beginning of August our website had gone live and was kept up to date with blogs and company information, I wanted to create a buzz about the brand by keeping people up to date with what was happening and how the collections were coming along. The denim dress was available to order through the contact page and through social media.

In the coming months and leading up to Christmas I also sourced a packaging supplier and had our packaging branded using postal boxes, envelopes and gift bags all made from recycled art paper. I decided to launch the tartan dress just in time for Christmas, these dresses were fully branded with our Lola Starr snap fasteners and were the first dresses to be manufactured in London.

Coming into the new year I was working round the clock on the new collection and the content for the E-commerce website ready to go live in March. We had our first professional photoshoot in February introducing some new little starrs! I put a post out on social media weeks before with a brief description of what I was looking for and wanted to give ordinary children a chance of joining in the fun.

Fast forward to 26thMarch and the E-commerce website went live. This was an exciting time and we have done a number of Pop Up Shops. I love doing these getting out and meeting people, showing them how versatile the dresses are. Our next one is Monday 10thand 11thJune, we will be back in Liverpool HSBC branch on Lord Street, come down and see us. We currently have pieces from our collection in Designer kidz boutique in Prescot and looking for other retailers who would be interested in stocking Lola Starr.
